Right after I graduated, I started working at Safeway, and then in 1981, I had a nasty accident at the store and broke both my tailbone and ruptured a disc in my back. After undergoing several surgeries to remove my tailbone and healing up, I worked for Alta Gold from 1990 - 2012 and the Golden Butte Mine for a total of 20 years.
Eventually, I had luck on bad luck's side when I broke my metatarsal bones in my right foot and had to have foot surgery. Afterwards, I then went to work for the Driver's License Motor Vehicles office and became a supervisor, staying there for around 14 years until I retired in 2017.
One of my favorite trips was to Sweden in 2012 when I got to meet some of my distant relatives and stay there for three weeks. The food there was delicious, I also took a couple of cruises that were memorable.
I spend most of my time taking care of my mom these days, who will be turning 90 this year. My father "Conrad" passed away in 2007 at the age of 77. My brother Pat owns a restaurant in Ely called Racks Bar & Grill, while my sister Linda also lives in Ely. Sadly, both my brother Rick and Steve passed away in 2019 within 7 weeks of each other.
I have one son, Matt who had two grandsons for me. He and his wife live in Las Vegas and see them quite often.
